Prof. Dr. Gregor Borg – mini-bio

Gregor Borg is a German-born economic geologist by training and has worked both in academia and industry alike for 30 years.

He finished his undergraduate studies at Ruhr Universität Bochum, Germany (1983) and did his PhD at the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa (1988).

Gregor Borg holds the full-time position of Full Professor and Chair in Economic Geology and Petrology at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg, Germany. Additionally he is a regular part-time consultant to a number of international exploration and mining companies and to the mineral processing industry.

Since 1993 he lives predominantly in Halle (Germany) but also in Exeter (Devon) and Cape Town (South Africa) for parts of the year.

He lived for ten years in Southern and Eastern Africa and the countries of his more substantial projects include Namibia, Tanzania, Iran, Turkey, Armenia, Greenland, and Germany.

He has actively explored for and published extensively on various types of precious and base metal deposits in several continents. He can claim the discovery of two major gold deposits in Tanzania for the Tanzanian Government and Anglo American Corporation respectively. One of these, Buzwagi Mine, has a pre-mining reserve of 1,9 Mio. Ounces of gold, the Nyaligongo (Golden Ridge) Project is host to 4,0 Mio Ounces of gold in proven and probable reserves.

He holds the position of deputy chairman of the advisory board in two public companies, Deutsche Rohstoff AG, a German junior mining house, and CERITECH AG, a rare earth element exploration company.

He is a technical and industrial consultant to PMS GmbH, Hamburg, Germany, an engineering company that has invented and is now producing and marketing the VeRo Liberator®, an innovative high-velocity impact crusher.
